Eating Disorders

Conquering your Eating Disorder...Finally!!
Compulsive Overeating Anorexia Nervosa Bulimia Nervosa Distorted Body Image
If you are struggling in silence with the physically and emotionally destructive effects of food obsessions, compulsive overeating, distorted body image, anorexia or bulimia, I hope you will consider my help.  As a clinical psychotherapist who has worked extensively with individuals battling an eating disorder, I understand the emotional and physical toll of this condition.  But as a woman who also overcame this condition, I personally understand the embarrassment, depression, disgust and hopelessness that can build when emotional eating and hopeless thinking gets out of control.  I battled my own personal body issues for over 13 years before finally facing my internal demons and finding peace with who I am and successfully choosing a life that allows me to be real with who I am and not remain a prisoner of food.  It wasn’t easy to do.

But I am here to assure you that you can put food in its proper place and live a life free from:

  • Food obsessions
  • Bingeing
  • Constant dieting
  • Purging and/or laxative abuse
  • Constant negative self-comparisons

Together, with persistence, patience and some hard hitting emotional work, we can get your life back on track!

Food is not the problem!

That might surprise you.  Food may be the symptom of the real problem, but it is not the problem. Let’s look at how our bodies use food.

  • Energy
  • Nutrition for health
  • Muscle building
  • Boost immune system

However, food serves many needs other than physical.  Food:

  • Relieves boredom
  • Relieves tension
  • Relieves anxiety
  • Relieves sadness
  • Relieves anger

In the short term, food is a very effective coping skill!  And from time to time, we all use food as a way to escape uncomfortable feelings.

The problem starts when food becomes our consistent way of coping.

When you start to obsess about the food you are eating, or will be eating ...when you start planning private time in order to eat your “forbidden foods”…. when you obsess about your body image and body size…when you believe you only deserve to be happy once you are at your desired weight… when these are just some of your daily regular thoughts, then food has taken on an unnatural role in your life.

What are the signs you may have a problem?

  • You compulsively overeat
  • You try to eat normally but cannot
  • You secretly eat and hide food
  • You excessively think about eating
  • You feel guilty when you eat
  • You purge to relieve feeling guilty
  • You avoid food
  • You fear food
  • You hate the way you look
  • You always weigh yourself
  • You avoid looking at yourself in a mirror
  • You feel hopeless that things will never change

If you can relate to any of the above statements, please feel free to call me and make an appointment to talk.  I can help you live a more rewarding life!
